An old Super8-film of the artists father shows him as a two-year-old child, riding a tricycle. Watching this short (innocent) sequence triggered a deep analysis of the effects of the past actions on the course of the life. Would alternative decisions in the past have resulted in a completely different life? The interviews audible in the video examine the decision behaviours of random people on the street while on the image plane the animation shows the two-year-old artist riding the tricycle back and forth between his former home and the exhibition space.
Just as every film needs motion to come to life, our lives too are all about movement but require permanent steering. The object on display works as a Zoetrope – a device that produces the illusion of motion from a rapid succession of static pictures – and utilizes the original Super8 movie stills. It is set in motion by the visitor and allegorically represents the compulsion to move.
